Get to Know Your VSWGA

Phyllis Simon

Past President

I moved to Vermont 25+ years ago because of a guy, Mark. Just over 20 years ago we married and we both started playing golf. Mark told me that as long as I didn’t play more golf than he did, everything would be okay. But…I do play more golf than he does and everything is still okay.
When I began playing at Williston, my goal was to lower my handicap so I could participate in State Days. I did that over 11years ago which was when I joined the VSWGA. I have been a member at Vermont National for 9 years, where I was the club rep until I became the President of the VSWGA.
I was elected to the Board in 2006 and became the Vice President and I was elected to the President’s position in October 2010. Due to the flooding in Waterbury (where my office was destroyed), I decided to step down from the position, because there was just too much going on in my life.  I’ve been on the committee and/or chaired the Tri-States Tournament for the past few years. It’s a great event and this year it will be held Mount Washington in NH. Vermont has won the event four times out of the past five years (that’s the Tri-States plaque in the photo with me).
When I’m not playing golf, I’m working with Mark in our business – we and our staff operate and maintain water and wastewater systems throughout the State of Vermont. In the rest of my spare time, I train internal auditors. I’m a CPA, a CIA, and a CFE.
