Get to Know Your VSWGA

Both Jeff and I are “Natives” from New Hampshire…he is from the Northern part of the state and I am from the Southern part…we settled on Central NH and have lived in Meriden NH since 1975.  We have two daughters, Kiersten (who played as a junior and collegiate golfer with the VSWGA), she is living in Arizona, and Kelsey who has moved back from Salt Lake City and is now in Richmond Vermont and working for an Ophthalmologist in Stowe.  Jeff is a retired Civil Engineer and has helped out at several of the VSWGA events.

I am a Registered Nurse working at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in the Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) since 1973, caring for premature and sick infants. When I started in the ICN we were a two bed unit in the adult ICU; we have grown to a 30 bed ICN. I am officially retired but continue to work per diem during the off season…I am happy to say … “I still love my Job:”

I started playing golf in 1981 – prior to that I was an avid Skier, Tennis and Racquet Ball player and when setting up the next match my partner could not play because she was playing golf…”What…you play that game!!” was my response.  She assured me it was a great game and took me to Windsor CC in Vermont (now JP Larkin) and that is when I was hooked. I joined the club and played as often as I could and loved the people as well as the competition.  I honestly believe that you can learn more about a person playing 18 holes of golf and become friends for life faster than you can with anything else in your life.  I joined Crown Point CC in 1991 and have remained a member since – I have great friends and awesome fellow competitors on and off the course--- they are the best.

 I became involved in the VSWGA in 1984 and on the Board in 1988.  I have been involved in many roles since the start. I computerized the first State Day book as State Day Chair, then was the President for 3 years.  I entered my first NEWGA tournament in 1987 and finished dead last and knew there was so much more to this game – as we know it is the most humbling game on earth.  I was asked to be the NEWGA representative for Vermont in 1988; which I continue to remain involved today as NEWGA Executive Secretary and VT Representative.  I am fortunate to have made wonderful contacts and friends throughout New England and continue to share all the great things we do in Vermont.  The many memories, laughs and good times are what keeps me enjoying golf in the great State of Vermont.  Some of my best finishes have been 4^th place in the State Ams, Senior Champion (2006) and Runner-up (2007) -- with each event anything can happen – no matter what - the best thing in the world is to be on this side of the grass!

My present involvement with the VSWGA is co-chairing the Rules Committee with Ellen Sheffer.  I am on the USGA Women’s Regional Affairs Committee - representing VSWGA .  Re-tired as Tournament director last year after 18 years of running VSWGA Championships - I am now a support person to Rhonda Colvard who is the new Tournament Director for the VSWGA.  I was thrilled to be honored last year at the final State Day – I was so surprised and touched – it has been a wonderful experience for me to be part of these special events.

Off Season….I have many hobbies that include quilting, watercolor painting, skiing and taking our new dog “Birdie” for long walks.
