Louise Billy Wins NEWGA Championship


Louise Billy of Derryfield CC, New Hampshire, has won the 44th Annual New England Women's Golf Association Championship at Sugarloaf Golf Club, Carrabassett Valley, Maine. Louise won by six strokes over defending champion Natalie Galligan of Massachusetts with a three-day total of 236. Scores were high on the difficult mountain course with competitors playing in 50 mile per hour winds on the opening day.

Kathy Allbright of Crown Point led a small contingent of Vermonters finishing tied for 42nd with a total of 278. Other Vermonters were Pat Haas of Green Mountain National and Carol Dawson of Quechee. Karen Thompson of St. Johnsbury was forced to withdraw due to an injury. Libby Smith, current VSWGA champion, is still recovering from a broken foot and was unable to play.
