Ann O'Day Wins Mid-Amateur Championship




Ann O'Day, of The Country Club of Vermont, won her third VSWGA Mid-Amateur Championship this weekend at Newport Country Club by three strokes over defending champion Margie Mather-Bowes. Ann fired an opening round of 74 giving her a three stroke lead over Liz Swim of Burlington heading into the final day. Margie had a disappointing opening round of 80 putting her six strokes back, but fired Sunday's best round of 76 to pull within three strokes of Ann who had a 79 on Sunday. Mari Harter of Orleans finished in third place with steady rounds of 78 and 79. Janet Larson of Rutland was fourth with rounds of 82 and 78.

Anne Huot, of Rocky Ridge, won the low net award by a convincing seven strokes over Mary Ann Oliver of Neshobe and Kathy Dube of Williston. Liz Walker of Brattleboro won the putting contest in a playoff with 27 putts on Saturday and 28 putts on Sunday.
