VSWGA Board Meeting Minutes

VSWGA Board of Directors/Committee Activity

The Board and committee chairs met on 4/22/03. It was fun to get together and hear what everyone is doing to prepare for what looks like our busiest season ever!

We are certainly on target to accomplish our goals for the year:

1. Initiate and state match play tournament

This has been done and will occur at Crown Point

2. Increase junior girls golf activity

a. We are working with Leo Reynolds to offer three clinics across the state for junior girls and their mentors. Watch for more details.

b. We are sponsoring a junior girls state match play tournament at Ralph Myhre in July.

c. We ask all of you to encourage your clubs to support activities for junior girls.

3. Increase communication with membership

a. Our website continues to grow with lots of great information and history, as well as on-line applications for our events.

b. State Day reps’ communications have been enhanced by using e-mail, as well as periodic newsletters.

c. Summaries of Board meetings will be put on the website.

4. Continue centralizing VSWGA operations.

a. We are working towards establishing a small office.

b. We will apply for a USGA intern for 2004.

c. The Tournament committee is progressing towards updating our operations manual.

d. Our policies and procedures are in place, as well as a new Board member orientation manual.

e. The Chelsea system continues to support our efforts to centralize State Day activity.

5. Strengthen relations with USGA

a. We have representatives attending USGA-sponsored meetings.

b. We intend to work with our regional USGA liaison to support our request for an intern in 2004.

c. We share summaries of our Board and organizational activity with our USGA regional liaison.

State Day reps should receive a newsletter soon updating our summer "tour" events. The course Rating committee will be lining up several road trips, including Kwiniaska and Manchester. The Tournament Committee has added a nine-hole event at the Seniors for ladies 70 years and older. We are also making sure that any of our trophies that need new bases for engraving get done. Finally, we continue to watch our organizations budget, as we are pretty "close to the vest".

I am really proud of the direction our VSWGA is headed. You can be sure that those in key positions are doing everything they can to make this an enjoyable season for you.

Keep in touch and enjoy a great golfing season. See ya on the links!
