there. Actually, she is not a member, but won a member/guest there and
has played the course many times. Sorry for the incorrect
information. It was my mistake. Cindy)
The tournament was first started in 1995
as part of the USGA's centennial celebration and is held every other year at
different course around the country. The inaugural event was held at
Lake Buena Vista Country Club in Orlando, FL with the Pennsylvania team, which
included legendary amateur golfer Carol Semple Thompson, edging out Texas by
one stroke. The team of Mary Beth Birsky, Cindy Paquet, and Ann Waters
represented Vermont in that first event with Kathy Allbright acting as a
non-playing captain and alternate. Since then, Vermont has been one of
the few states that has not been represented, so it is great to have such a
strong team representing Vermont this year.
The tournament format is three days of medal play competition with the best two out of three scores counting towards the team's total score. For the first two days of competition, each state is paired with two other states randomly. Each team member is paired with a team member from the other two states. The teams are paired by standing for the final day of competition.
