P.J. Boatwright Intern Hired

We would like to announce that Marie Tucker will be joining the Vermont State Women's Golf Association this summer as an intern through the USGA, P.J. Boatwright Internship Program.  She will be working out of the VSWGA Office with Sue Ming, our new State Day/Points Chair.  You will see Marie wearing many different hats as she assists with onsite preparation and processing of State Days and tournaments, the Chelsea system, and preparation of the annual awards banquet.  She will also assist the other committee chairs with their various projects and attend many golf tournaments.  In other words, she will be a very busy person between May 1st and October 1st.  We have asked her to introduce herself.  Please welcome Marie Tucker.

I am a native Vermonter, except for the past three years, attending school in Myrtle Beach , SC for two years and living in Nashville , TN for the past year.  I have a strong love for the game of golf and am looking forward to meeting everyone .who is connected with the Vermont State Women's Golf Association.  

I recently graduated from The Golf Academy of the Carolinas, a branch campus of the San Diego Golf Academy .  The school curriculum closely resembles the Golf Professional Training Program of the PGA.  I earned an association degree in business management as well as certifications for Tournament Operations and Club Repair Operations.  My computer skills include knowledge of Point of Sales registers, Windows operating systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Word Perfect, and engineer accounting system.  My training has also included PGA/USGA Rules Seminars, volunteering at several major golf tournaments and an associate degree from Champlain College in Accounting.  

This past summer I worked at the Pine Creek Golf Course in Mt. Juliet , TN.   This job involved opening the pro shop, taking tee times over the phone, processing players for current tee times, as well as setting up golf carts for tee times and getting the players out as scheduled.   I also worked part time at Legg’s Hanes Bali and Playtex store as floor manager and became full time when the season ended in November.   

Other activities and organizations that I have been involved in as either a member or volunteer are:
            Special Olympics basketball tournament, awards committee
            Flynn Theatre for the Performing Arts
            Mentor at the South Burlington middle school 
            Community Service as a member of the General Federation of Women Clubs of Vermont
            General Federation of Women Clubs of Vermont, member and officer
            Outlook Club of Bristol (GFWC affiliated), member and officer
            Women’s International Bowling Congress, Tri City , Vermont  
            Bowling Association Secretary, local director, league officer for four years  

I am very excited about the opportunity to serve as the Vermont State Women's Golf Association’s Intern for the 2004 season and look forward to meeting everyone.
