Vermont Wins Tri-States

A very determined
Vermont team traveled to the beautiful Maine coast and took the annual
Tri-State competition by storm over Maine and New Hampshire. Vermont got
off to a great start in the alternate shot format on the first day of
competition building a 20 point lead over the host Maine team. But, even
a 20 point lead was not necessarily enough with 2/3 of the available points
still up for grabs on the second day of play which features individual
matches. Vermont, however, came out just as strong on the second day and
increased the margin over Maine to 36.5 points. The final point totals
were: Vermont - 161.5, Maine - 125.0, and New Hampshire - 118.5.
The tournament
was held June 16 & 17 at Boothbay Country Club in Boothbay Harbor, Maine,
one of Maine's most
popular and scenic tourists spots. The Vermont
players apparently thrive on lobster, because the lobster population is seriously
depleted after our invasion.
In the alternate shot competition where both players drive on each hole, one ball is selected, and players alternate shots in to the hole, several Vermont duos took 5 - 6 points (6 points is the maximun):
| Paquet/Proia-Thompson | 6.0 |
| Austin/Pierson | 6.0 |
| Jones/Dittmer | 6.0 |
| Turcotte-Mahoney/Thompson | 5.5 |
| Ballard/Ranslow | 5.5 |
| Pealer/Hiller | 5.5 |
| Lisai/Becker | 5.0 |
| Miner/Hoar | 5.0 |
