Libby Smith, five-time VSWGA
amateur champion, accomplished her most impressive feat in her professional
career by capturing 6th place in the Samsung Ladies Masters at Laguna National
Golf and Country Club in Singapore. Libby, paired with Laura Davies,
added a final round score of 73 to her two opening rounds of 70 for a 3-under
par total picking up a $7000 check. This paycheck brings Libby's total for
the Asian tour to over $11,600. Prior to her final round of 73, Libby
had been under par for her last five rounds and she has made the cut for all
four of the events in which she has played.
The Samsung Ladies Masters is the first ever event sanctioned by the European Ladies Tour to be held in Asia. Libby qualified for this event with her 6th place finish in an earlier event held in Taiwan. Bo Bae Song of Koren won the tournament at 10-under, just one stroke ahead of Charlotta Sorenstam of Sweden (Annika's sister). Laura Davies finished in a third place tie at - 8.
