2005 State Day Awards

Jeanne Morrissey of Williston won her fourth Janet Lang Trophy in seven years  for the most state day points in the 2005 season with 97 points.  Joan Penrod of Rocky Ridge and Sandra Towns of St. Johnsbury were tied for second place with 71 points.

The Genevieve Babbitt Smith Memorial Trophy for the individual who lowered her handicap the most during the 2005 season went to Cheryl Starling of Cedar Knoll who lowed her handicap from 28.1 to 19.6 (8.5 strokes) in D Division.   Other players receiving awards for lowering their handicaps were Wendy Drolette of Williston (A Division) - 16.0 to 11.4, Jane Becker of Crown Point (B Division) - 16.2 - 10.5, Judy Geriak of Manchester (C Division) - 24.6 to 19.2,  and Joan Penrod of Rocky Ridge (E Division) - 34.2 to 37.6.

The Mae Murray Jones Trophy for the Division I club with the most points went to Williston for the sixth consecutive year with 79 points.  With 75 points, Burlington Country Club gave Williston a tough battle this year.  The Division II award went to West Bolton  for the forth consecutive year with 46 points while the Division III award went back to Copley with 17 points.  Copley had won in 2002 and 2003.

There were two holes-in-ones scored  during last year's  the final state at Quechee.  Judy Kurtz of St. Johnsbury aced the first hole with her first shot of the day and Rhonda Colvard of Burlington added her hole-in-one on the 8th hole.  Judy Tinker of Orleans scored a hole-in-one during the St. Johnsbury state day on June 28.   Sandy Jarvis of Williston had her hole-in-one at the Richford state day on July 22.

Karen Lewis presented Jeanne Morrissey with a "JAM" cap to commemorate her back-to-back 69's this season.  Her first 69 was scored at the Newport state day on July 12th.  Shortly after that, she fired another 69 at her home course of Williston.  The 69 at Newport sets a new state day record breaking the record of 70 shot by Kathy Kemp in 2000 at Lake St. Catherine and Libby Smith at both Blush Hill and Northfield in 2002.  The cap was embroidered by Shari Pfannenstein with the 69's in roman numerals.

Congratulations to Jeanne and all the winners.

Both the Quechee and Woodstock final state days were cancelled due to weather.
