The
Vermont Sportswriters and Sportscasters
Association will pay tribute to Reggie Parker of Manchester, the 2005 Vermont
Women’s Amateur Golf Champion, during its annual banquet on Sunday June 4,
2006 at Norwich University. Parker,
who was elected the Vermont Female Athlete of the Month for August 2005, will
be honored along with the other monthly winners at the noon banquet in Plumly
Armory. Reserve

athletic achievements for the past year will be recognized at the banquet,
along with the presentation of scholarship, coaching and service awards.
The banquet ends with the crowning of both a male and female Athlete of the
Year for Vermont. Parker,
who plays out of the Ekwanok Country Club, Parker fired a 54-hole total of
6-overpar 222 to capture the Vermont
State Women’s Amateur Golf Tournament at Crown Point Country Club in
Springfield on Aug. 10. She managed to fight off two up-and-coming
golfers, Molly Aronsson of Burlington (the first day leader), who ended with a
231 and Kimberley Wong of Barre, who scored a 238. Parker,
the state’s match play champion and the 2004 New England Women’s titlist,
was among nine of the top 11 golfers back.. Parker took the lead
on the second day of the three-day classic when she fired a 1-under par 71,
the best score of the tournament. VSSA
President Jack Healey of WSYB-AM in Rutland said the monthly
winners are selected through statewide
balloting after association members submit detailed nominations about
individual performances in the previous month. All full-time and
part-time sportswriters and sportscasters, including play-by-play announcers
and analysts covering Vermont, are
eligible for VSSA membership. More
