One of the top golfers in New England over the past 40 years is gone. Julie Greene, 70, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at her home in Barrington, RI of a brain tumor. Julie was inducted into the Rhode Island Golf Hall of Fame in 2002 having won the Rhode Island Women's State Amateur Championship a record 11 times between 1963 and 1998. She also won the New Englands in 1971 and 1978 and the Senior Eastern Championship in 1996 and 1997. As recently as last summer, she won the Super Senior Women's Eastern Championship. She reached the quarterfinals of the US Women's Amateur twice losing both times to Beth Daniel.
Julie was not only an outstanding athlete and golfer, but she was also fun to be around. She will be greatly missed.
