Mary Emans

PETERBOROUGH, N.H. - Mary Romaine Wickes Emans, 90, died on
August 8, 2008, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Emans was born on August 16, 1917, in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the
daughter of Romaine (Bramwell) and Howard C. Wickes. She grew up in Des
Moines, Iowa. After earning her B.A. and master's degrees at the University of
Michigan, she worked for American Airlines and military intelligence in the
War Department in Washington, D.C. She wed John Emans in December 1942 and
they were active members of the communities of Schenectady and Burnt Hills,
New York; Randolph, Barnard and Woodstock, Vermont; Paradise Valley and
Scottsdale, Arizona; and, most recently, RiverMead in Peterborough, New
Hampshire.
Mary was active as a district director of the Junior League and also in the
garden club in the Albany area. An avid and accomplished golfer, she held 12
club championship titles in Arizona, Vermont and New Hampshire. She enjoyed
team golf in New England and was the chairman of the Tri-State Women's Golf
Association for 12 years. The Episcopal Church also was an important part of
her life.
She is survived by her husband, John of Peterborough; son John of Weston,
Massachusetts; daughter Carole Fredericks of Jacksonville, Florida;
granddaughter Kate Emans Sims of Cambridge and Amherst, Massachusetts; and
grandson Matthew Emans of Boston, Massachusetts.
A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Dublin, New
Hampshire, at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008. A reception will follow in
the Courtyard at RiverMead, Peterborough, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers,
donations in Mary's honor may be made to RiverMead.
