Tri-State Team Selection Criteria
A
few women who had not played in the Tri-States before have applied to be on
this year’s Tri-State Team and have brought up an interesting topic.
They thought that in order to play on the team, you had to have
experience playing on the team – that’s a tough act. Prior to 2006, there was usually one new player each year.
Beginning in 2007, the Tri-State Committee developed criteria to help
select the team. In 2007, we had
six new players, two of whom did not play in 2008, when we had five new
players and another new player as an alternate.
You can see that your chances of getting onto the team have greatly
increased.
We
do continue to look for experienced players, specifically 50% to 75% in each
of the divisions. We also look at
the difficulty of your home course, the number of applicants from each course,
and how many times you’ve played this season prior to the team selection
date. This year, the last criterion is difficult due to the new,
earlier deadline for submitting your application. However, if you’ve spent the winter in an “active
season” area, we will look at your winter course’s difficulty and your
scores.
As
a reminder, we need 8 players in A and C, 14 in B, and two alternates who are
in the B flight range. The
alternates, if not needed in the tournament, are required to attend the event
and play in their own “tournament” with the alternates from NH and ME.
For
everyone who has already applied, please let me know (Simonop@aol.com) if you
would prefer a sleeveless or short-sleeved shirt.
If you haven’t applied yet, please include your sleeve preference on
your application. We will be
getting sample shirts in different sizes so we can see if they will be true to
size.
If you have any questions about the Tri-States, please let me know. Please note - the postmark deadline this year is May 1, 2009.
