Libby Missed the Cut
Check this link for Libby's scorecard and statistics for the first two rounds of the US Women's Open.
"First off, I want to thank everyone that has helped me out to this point. Obviously, without your help and support I would not have been able to have had the opportunity I've had this week. The US Women's Open is amazing. Not only is it the toughest golf I have ever played, but the atmosphere is unlike any other. From the moment I arrived on property there was an excitement in the air. It started with the fans that walked around and cheered us on during our practice rounds. Throughout the week I had the support of Vermont fans everywhere...I had people yelling across the fairway, "Go Vermont! You make us proud!" and then they would yell out what town they were from or maybe a, "Go Essex Junction!" It really has been an unbelievably awesome experience.
Going into Thursday's round I really felt confident. I knew I could compete and knew I belonged out there. I felt comfortable and relaxed throughout the week. It was great being around the LPGA girls again and I was able to catch up with a few of my buddies I haven't seen in a while. I had a ton of fun out there and wished I was playing two more days. I can only imagine how the crowds will be tomorrow and Sunday.
I had some moments of greatness out there though :) There were a lot of positive things that happened over the course of two rounds. I made some spectacular par saves. Hit a lot of great shots, but just couldn't get any putts to fall for birdie to help turn things around and get some momentum going in my favor. I really played some good golf for stretches and overall know I made some big steps forward. This being the biggest stage in Women's Golf, I obviously will take a lot from this week. I made some good par saving putts, and honestly these were the most difficult pin positions I have ever seen. Every putt was difficult...even the two footers had enough break to them that you had to play the ball outside the hole majority of the time. The conditions were amazing and the golf course one of the best tracks I have ever played. The USGA does a fantastic job of putting on a tournament as well as setting up one!
All in all, there is a whole lot I will be taking from this week. Number one, I made it here! Number two I played some great golf and enjoyed every minute of it :)
I want to thank you all for you support and encouragement building up to this week as well as during it. The experience has been a memorable one. My first US Women's Open is one I will never forget! I look forward to competing in my next one :)
Wishing you all the best,
Libby Smith :)"
