Samantha Morrell, Mary Chamberlain, Tara Joy-Connelly

 

Samantha Morrell of No. Lambert's Point Golf Club, RI has won the 54th Annual New England Women's Golf Championship at Green Mountain National Golf Club in Killington, Vermont.  Samantha started the final round four strokes down to Vermont's own Teo Poplawski of Champlain Country Club.  After two days of very steady play at even par, Teo was derailed early in her final round by being penalized for taking the incorrect drop from a water hazard.  Teo still finished a very respectable tied for fourth place, six strokes behind Morrell.  Former champion, Tara Joy Connelly of MA, was the runner-up finishing two strokes behind Morrell.

The Junior Champion was Vermonter Kristen Garabedian of Lake St. Catherine.  She also placed 9th overall. Nancy Chaffee of RI was the Legend Champion and Joanne Catlin of MA was the Senior Champion.  Massachusetts won the Cartin Trophy for the 11th straight year edging Vermont by six strokes.  

Vermont placed five players in the top twenty.  In addition to Teo and Kristen,  Keely Levins of Rutland  and former champion, Holly Reynolds of Copley, were tied fro 14th place.  Reggie Parker finished in 19th place.  In all, thirteen Vermonters survived the 36-hole cut.  The other players making the cut were: Lindsay Cone, Jeanne Morrissey, Patti Haas,  Mary Corrigan,  Catherine Hellman, Erika Politano, Nancy Gorham-LaSante, and Kathy Allbright.
