Carly Ferro Dies as a Result of a Tragic Accident

It was just six weeks ago today that the bubbly 17-year old Carly Ferro of Rutland Country Club was celebrating a fine score of 82 in the final round of the VSWGA State Amateur Championship in St. Johnsbury and looking forward to her senior year in high school.  Yesterday, that promising life was cut short by a speeding and presumably drunk and high driver on Cleveland Avenue in Rutland as she was getting into her father's car after work.  Tragically, Carly was trapped between her father's car and a building and pushed for 100 feet.  She was pronounced dead that evening at the Rutland Medical Center.

Carly, the daughter of long-time Rutland golfer Ellen Ferro, was a senior at Rutland High School and a member of the varsity golf team.  She was also in the orchestra for 10 years, played basketball, and was a member of Key Club.  She has played in the VSWGA State Amateur Championship for the past three years improving her position each year from 32nd to 25th to 18th this year.  Last spring, she led her Rutland team to the Division I state championship and was medalist for the high school tournament.

Carly was an exuberant young lady and always had a big smile on her face.  All our sympathies go out to her mother, Ellen, her father, and to all the Rutland golfers.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Rutland Country Club on Saturday at 11:00AM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at any Merchants Bank to the Purple Angel Foundation in Carly's name.
