Vermonters Compete in Futures at GMN

Four Vermonters competed in the Smartspikes Futures Classic at Green Mountain National Golf Course. They were former 5-time VSWGA champion and former Futures Tour player Holly Reynolds, former 3-time VSWGA champion and new Futures Tour player Susan Horton, and amateurs Kiersten Allbright and Libby Smith.

All four golfers struggled in their opening rounds with one or two disastrous holes which ruined their rounds. Susan and Libby both had trouble with the difficult second hole while Holly had difficulty on six and seven. Kiersten, however, had an excellent round going until the 17th hole. Susan ended up with a 76, Kiersten with a 79, and Holly and Libby with 80's.

Susan fired a terrific 67 on day 2 to tie the low round of the tournament, but struggled on day 3 ending with a 3-day total of 222 to finish in 28th place and pick up her 2nd paycheck of her young professional career. Libby also played well Friday shooting a 72 to make the cut, but she too struggled on the final day. Holly and Kiersten failed to make the cut, although Kiersten missed by only three strokes.

The tournament winner was Grace Park (no surprise there) with a three-day total of 203 (thirteen under par), seven strokes ahead of Yu Ping Lin. Grace has dominated the Futures Tour since joining it in May of this year.
