Susan Horton recently participated in two 1999 Sectional qualifiers for the LPGA Tour. The first was held at the Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida August 24-27. The tournament was a four day event with the top 30 players advancing to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. The second and final sectional qualifying tournament is being held this week at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA. In the Florida sectional qualifier, Sue was in 12th place after the first two rounds shooting 75-71 to survive the cut. She failed to make the final cut, however, with a four-day total of 302, just six strokes over the cut of 296. In the second qualifier in California, Sue missed the 2-day cut by one stroke shooting 77-74 for a 151 total. |

Over 180 women from the amatuer ranks, the Futures Tour, the Asian Tour, the European Tour, the LPGA tour, and elsewhere representing 16 countries and 28 states were competing for a coveted few spots on the 2000 LPGA Tour. Many of players who failed to advance in the first sectional, competed again in the second sectional. The top thirty players from each qualifier advance to the LPGA Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida on October 19-22 joining seven players who finished 4th-10th on the Futures Tour. The top three players from the Futures Tour, where Susan has been playing since June, receive automatic exempt status for the 2000 LPGA Tour. Grace Park, Marilyn Lovander, and Audra Burks were the three players at the top of the Futures Tour this year. |
