Ann O’Day Wins Mid-Amateur Championship

Ann O'Day of Country Club of Vermont won her second Mid-Amateur title on Sunday, September 19th at Proctor-Pittsford Country Club. She shot an opening round of 77 to lead Cindy Paquet of Ralph Myhre Golf Club by one stroke and Jeanne Morrissey of Williston by two strokes. Karen Lewis of Montague and Kathy Kemp of Barre were tied for fourth with 83's. On the second day, neither Cindy nor Jeanne were able to catch Ann as she finished at 158, one stroke ahead of Cindy and three strokes ahead of Jeanne. Nancy Divoll of Bellows Falls moved into fourth place shooting the low round on Sunday of 80. Karen Lewis finished fifth with Susie Bremner of Rocky Ridge rounding out the top 6.

Karen Slowinski of West Bolton won the net honors with a 2-day net total of 134, four strokes ahead of Diane Jones o Lake Morey and Anne Huot of Rocky Ridge. Pam Shover, who lead the net division after the first round, finished fourth with Sue Ming and Isabelle Finch rounded out the top six in the net division.

This was the fourth Mid-Amateur Championship and marks the first time that a full field of 60 players was reached. Proctor-Pittsford Country Club was in beautiful condition (with the exception of a few sand traps that looked more like water hazards) considering the prolonged drought and Hurricane Floyd.
