Junior Program
Going Strong
The Junior
Program got off to a strong start on July 10th with the first of 3
Junior Clinics being held throughout the month of July.
The first clinic was held on July 10th at the Practice Tee in
Manchester. The following is an
excerpt of the report on the clinic from Mary Anne Levins:
“
30 girls ages 5 - 17 attended!!! Many parents stayed on site to extract a
"Leo tip" or two for themselves...they, along with the girls, did not
leave w/o gaining some great information and a new enthusiasm toward the game,
thanks to Leo's efforts!!!
The magazine, "Golf for Women" was on site...many cameramen and a
writer working on a story about Girls Golf in the Green
Mountains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leo created an atmosphere for the clinic that was very professional, yet very
comfortable for everyone, and the students were focused and working hard, while
at the same time, having a lot of FUN!!!!!!
Leo was superb at introducing the 3 main components of the golf swing that were
to be covered, keeping the message simple and direct...therefore, when we broke
down into smaller groups, and the "assistants" stepped in to help,
improvement for each child was, at times, immediate!!!!!!!...and we all know how
good that feels!!!!!!!
Jay Morrow, who runs the driving range, seemed very pleased to host the clinic
and appreciated the plaque and gift basket from the VSWGA.
It was a great new start for VT girls golf. Two more clinics to go and we
are expecting good numbers at both of those!!!!!!”
The remaining clinics will be held on July 22nd
at Champlain Country Club in St. Albans (rain date July 23rd) and on
July 24th at Pinewoods Driving Range in Pittsford, VT (rain date July
25th). Girls can
register for these clinics by contacting

Chelsea
System
The Chelsea system has been in full swing this summer with
no problems being reported. Now
that system has been working for almost a year, the priority points are kicking
in and the system appears to be working as it is designed to.
Players who have been playing every week and players who have chosen to
play the “less popular” courses are rewarded by accumulating more points and
getting placed higher on the priority list when it comes time to placement.
However, groups that have always been getting their first choice week
after week have found that every once in a while the system places them in their
second choice in order to give other players a crack at the available times.
If you have any questions
or problems using the Chelsea system, PLEASE READ
your State Day Book pages 20 – 23 before
calling!! Most of the time your
questions will be answered there!!
IMPORTANT
!!
If you
are calling the club rep to make any changes, cancellations or additions between
Friday at 2:00 pm and the State Day in question, the
only message you should be leaving on an answering machine is a cancellation ! If you
want to make a change, or additions to your group, please speak to the rep
directly or indicate that you wish to do so in the message, but please do
not make the change in the message and assume that it is official.
The rep may have already filled in the open time.
The only confirmed change that should
be left on an answering machine message is a cancellation.

State
Day Cancellations
As
most of you are aware, State Days at Neshobe and Crown Point were cancelled on
July 22, 2003 because of heavy rains and unplayable courses.
It is too late in the season to reschedule, so these State Days will not
be made up. The Bellows Falls State
Day, rained out from May 13, 2003 is being rescheduled for next Tuesday, July 29th.
The Prospect Bay State Day, also rained out from May 13th, has
not been rescheduled.
